Owner Surrender Support and Resources
The City of Mobile Animal Services does not currently accept owner surrenders. However, we understand that everyone’s situation in life varies greatly, and sometimes, people must give up their animals for different reasons. While we are unable to accept owner surrenders, we do offer the following resources to help you find a way to keep your pet and, if necessary, resources to help you rehome your pet on your own.
Reason for Surrender
- I lost my job and can no longer afford to feed/ care for my animal(s)
- If you are between jobs and are having difficulty providing for your animals, email us at animalshelter@cityofmobile.org, and we may be able to put you in contact with one of our local partnering non-profits to help support you through this difficult time by providing temporary food and assistance with veterinary care for your pets. We firmly believe that it is in the best interest of both the animal and its owner to keep them together
- My pet is sick or injured, and I cannot afford the veterinary bills.
- There are several local and national non-profits that offer various forms of assistance with medical care. Types of assistance can range from providing subsidies to reducing your out-of-pocket costs to covering the entire bill. While Animal Services cannot pay for your veterinary care bills, we may be able to point you in the right direction. Email us at animalshelter@cityofmobile.org so that we can see what resources may be available for you.
- I absolutely cannot keep my pet. I have tried every other avenue and can't keep it.
- If you absolutely have to rehome your pet, here are some avenues for you to consider.
- Do a google search and look for Animal Rescues that are interested in the breed of animal you need to rehome.
- Post to your personal social media pages to see if your friends or family are interested in keeping your pet.
- Post your pet on Adopt-a-Pet using this link: https://rehome.adoptapet.com/r/87128. It will advertise your pet for you and help try to find someone who wants to adopt it.
